Another shot of a fire dancer at drumSTRONG 2008. This shot turned out a lot cooler than it looked through the lens due to the blue hues of the hotter temperatures towards the center of his ropes.

Percussion Instrument Made by a Local Artist

A local artist and friend of mine made this interesting percussion instrument which I'm attempting to play in this shot. I did manage to find some tonal progressions and hammered on it for a while once my hands started to hurt after about 5 hours of drumming. The artist's name is Paul Sires for anyone interested in his work (Google him).

Bucket Fort Demolition

The bucket fort lasted about 5 minutes before it came tumbling down. Bucket fort v2.0 would be engineered and constructed shortly thereafter.

The orange buckets at drumSTRONG 2008 were provided for folks who didn't bring something of their own to beat on. Of course, the kids had different ideas for the buckets and proceeded to build a fort. Of course, what goes up, must come down...

Part of the Festival Grounds

This photo is part of the festival grounds that drumSTRONG 2008 was hosted at. The drum circle itself is front and center, with the soundstage behind it. The circle had about 100 drummers in it at this point.

The 'Heartbeat' Drum

The large drum in the upper left hand corner of this photo was the 'heartbeat' drum, and was the one drum that played non-stop throughout the entire 26 hours of drumSTRONG 2008. It was handmade by a Charlotte percussionist and sounded amazing. The circle at this point had about 50 people playing, but at its height would have closer to 250.
