  • Unable To Open URLs After Upgrading Windows XP x64 To Service Pack 2

I recently upgraded my Windows XP x64 installation to Windows 2003 Service Pack 2 (for those not in the know, SP2 for Windows 2003 also applies to XP x64 since they are the same code base) only to run into an issue where clicking on any urls/hyperlinks from desktop applications (Outlook, Word, etc) generated the following error: "General Failure. The URL was (hyperlink name)." I use Firefox as my default browser, and it was definitely related to SP2 as this problem didn't show up until after the...
  • Upgraded To Firefox 2.0 -- Minimal Effort Required

I attempted to upgrade to Firefox 2.0 when it first came out a couple of weeks ago, however at that time the majority of the extensions I use were incompatible, and no updates were available. Fast forward to now, and the majority of my extensions do indeed play nice with 2.0...ones that did not have either been integrated into 2.0, or were worth just getting rid of entirely. I won't list my catalog of "must have" extensions however I did stumble across a new one that I absolutely love so far though...
  • Test Post From Performancing For Firefox

Performancing for Firefox 1.1.1 | Performancing.com Performancing for Firefox is a full featured blog editor that sits right within Firefox. Just hit F8 or click the little pencil icon at the bottom right to bring up the blog editor and easily post to your Wordpress, MovableType or Blogger blogs. This is a pretty cool little Firefox add-in; you can snag it from the link above. It won't replace my desktop blogging tool, but it's nice for publishing short snippets from websites, plus it supports Technorati...
  • Must Have Firefox Extensions

Sara’s post inspired me to hammer out a post of my favorite Firefox extensions: Tabbrowser Preferences . Adds lots of capabilities to Firefoxes tabbed browsing system. ForecastFox . You can never have enough weather reports, right? Mouse Gestures . This is my absolute favorite Firefox extension; it’s become second nature (to the point where I do gestures in other applications and wonder why they aren’t working…whoops!); I can’t imagine browsing without this extension. Getting used to it takes some...
  • Huge Firefox Gripe -- Duplicating a Firefox Installation

My new local domain is about 90% up and running, one of the last things I had left to do (add my laptop to the domain) I did earlier today; I didn’t care about my user settings on my other machines but needed to preserve those settings on my laptop…I’m still amazed at what a total pain in the ass it is to copy a user profile. In my case, it entailed the following: Add the machine to the domain. Login with my domain user account to get a default profile. Backed up my Outlook address book/rules/etc...
  • New Version of Google Toolbar for Firefox Breaks Autocomplete

I posted earlier about losing autocomplete after a recent round of upgrades to Firefox; it turns out it wasn’t the upgrade to 1.0.7 itself, but an updated version of the Google Toolbar for Firefox …on a hunch I removed that extension, restarted Firefox, and voila…autocomplete works again, and my entire autocomplete history came back as well. I was also able to duplicate this behavior on another machine, so that’s definitely the culprit. I can’t find a way to submit...
  • ASP.NET Validation Controls in Firefox

I actually figured this out with Bob a while back, but just to reiterate, the following code can get client side validation controls to work correctly in Firefox (or you can always do server side validation at the expense of postbacks): C# Page.Validate(); if ( !Page.IsValid ) { return ; } //Continue Your code VB.NET Page.Validate() If Not Page.IsValid Then Return End If 'Continue Your code Via Sushila Patel . • Make Firefox Faster -- Enable HTTP Pipelining

Bob found a great resource for making Firefox faster for broadband users. So why is pipelining disabled by default? Shannon sent me this link explaining some of the caveats involved. I did all the tweaks mentioned except adding the custom " nglayout.initialpaint.delay" key in about:config...I am ok with changing existing keys, but if a key isn't listed, there's probably a good reason as to why it's not. I've already noticed a huge increase in speed on pages with more than a trivial amount of images...
