• HBO Cancels 'Carnivale'

  From CNN (full article here ): HBO has pulled up stakes on "Carnivale," opting not to order a third season of the circus-set Dust Bowl drama. Shannon isn’t surprised (in his words, ‘Carnivale jumped the shark towards the end of season 2’). I disagree, and I’m very surprised. It appears to be more politically motivated than anything else; a quick Googling points to the main writer of Carnivale jumping ship to Showtime to write a comedy (!?!). I’m pissed…the story... • Hunter S. Thompson -- RIP

  Hunter S. Thompson apparently decided he had enough of his “ gonzo journalism ” lifestyle and decided to take his own life early this morning…what a tragic loss to the journalism community. I guess the irony is that he commited suicide; we all figured that he would have OD’d long before that…and we’ll all miss him. His unique writing style was refreshing; someone we could all wish to live vicariously through…ok, someone I lived vicariously through. RIP. Fear... • Blockbuster Dropping Late Fees

  Per CNNmoney ( full article here ): Blockbuster Inc. announced Tuesday it is abolishing late fees on all its video tapes, DVDs and video games as of Jan. 1. This is another prime example of a brick and mortar store feeling pressure from similar internet based businesses; namely NetFlix . Neither model really suits me (I'm a Blockbuster member (who isn't), and I was a NetFlix member for the first few months of their launch a few years back)...I like owning stuff.
