  • JaysonKnight.com Upgraded To Community Server 2007

JaysonKnight.com has been upgraded to Community Server 2007...if you're used to seeing this content in an aggregator, have a look around the new site . I still have a few kinks to iron out, but overall I'm very happy with the new themes included in CS. Is is the usual for me, I'll be going with stock CS themes that will evolve over time as I get around to making customizations. New to V 4.0 of JK.com: Clean clean clean. Did I mention it's much cleaner? Simplicity is elegance, so that's...
  • Add A Nice Touch To Your Site -- Snap Preview

A couple of folks in the Community Server have posted about a nifty offering from the folks over at Snap.com : Snap Preview Everywhere . It's a little gimmicky, but adds a nice touch to existing websites via just a couple of lines of javascript added to your header. I only have 2 complaints (if you can even call them that): I wish there was an option to specify the dimensions of the snap preview window (it's tiny on my 1600x1200 monitor), and an option to open links to external sites in a new window...
  • Community Server 2.1 Service Pack 1 Released

As was announced over in the CS.org forums yesterday , Telligent has released Service Pack 1 for CS 2.1. A list of fixes/enhancements as well as download and installation instructions is located here (you can choose to only download the SP itself, or an complete installation of CS2.1 with SP1 included). I have updated most of my sites (including this one) with no issues. Of course if you've modified any of the core CS code you'll need to run a diff on those files and download the SP1 SDK so you can...
  • JK.com Upgraded To CS 2.1 Beta 2

I’ve upgraded JK.com to the latest bits of CS…meaning CS2.1 Beta 2 . The new blog skins look great, however they suffer from lots of navigation issues, i.e. they aren’t consistent with the other (sitewide oriented) blog skins that shipped with CS2.0. This is something that must be addressed before CS2.1 RTM’s. That all being said, the upgrade was painless…a couple of DB upgrade scripts and that was it. The big push for CS2.2 is an easier skinning model (i.e. you don’t...
  • Migration To Community Server 2.1 Complete

The migration of JK.com to Community Server 2.1 is complete (still a few little issues to iron out, mainly related to CSS stuff plus a couple of controls to write). It was by far the easiest CS upgrade to date, had minimal downtime and only one error, which of course was caused by me and not CS itself. Regular visitors won’t notice much of a difference in the GUI (aside from the tag cloud)…as I’ve said before most of the work went into content mirroring and the Control Panel. My...
  • When Breaking Changes Actually Break Stuff

It’s funny how breaking changes actually…well, break stuff sometimes. I’ve had an issue on JK.com that I’ve been trying to track down for a while now: Search was completely broken and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out why. I won’t bore anyone with the troubleshooting steps I took, but long story short there was a change to the String.GetHashCode algorithm from .Net 1.1 to 2.0. It says it right there in the documentation: The behavior of GetHashCode is dependent...
  • JaysonKnight.com Version 4 Released

After about a week’s worth of tweaking/tracking down obscure little upgrade bugs/etc (hence the deafening silence around here lately), I finally pulled the switch on JK.com v.4 earlier today; of course it’s running on Community Server v.2 RTM which was released yesterday afternoon . I’ve been playing around with CS2.0 since the early internal alpha builds, but the RTM feels so much more refined than previous versions, not to mention that the revised admin section is much more intuitive...
  • Adding CoComment Support to Community Server

[Update] I've updated my code to use Thomas Freudenberg's solution, which can be found in the trackbacks of this post. I posted earlier about CoComment , which is an online tool that allows you to track comments you make on other blogs (if you go plug in your email address on their site, you’ll get a beta key within a day or so if you want to try it out, which I highly recommend doing). At the time of that posting, CoComment only supported the big name blogging engines, and from what I gathered somewhat...
