  • First Thoughts On Windows Vista RTM

    No, this post isn't meant to be an exhaustive review (or even a simple one)...there are tons of those already written up by folks who review software for a living. This will just be a short blurb. My first impression after installing the final release recently? It's a huge improvement performance-wise over RC2, as to be expected. Installation took just over 20 minutes (nice), then another 5 minutes adding optional Windows components and joining it to a domain (and this is all on a slow 5400 RPM drive...
  • Microsoft, I'm Pleading With You

    I've mentioned this before, but I'm going to mention it again: Microsoft is absolutely killing me with their version mismatching versioning scheme as of late. A list of complaints: The .Net Framework v3.0 is anything but a major release...hell, it's barely even a point release. It should be called .Net 2.0 extensions or something similar. A 3.0 release should contain new versions of all the core assemblies, like WinForms, ASP.NET, ADO.NET, etc...all 3.0 includes is WCF, WPF, and WWF (sans WinFS....
  • Windows Vista RC2 -- Finally Took The Plunge

    I've been avoiding all of the Vista CTP/Beta/RC releases like the plague (I've installed 2 CTPs over the past year, and they were very early on): A) I just don't have time to keep up with them all and B) I just really don't have time to keep up with them all. However with the announcement from Microsoft that RC2 will be the last publicly available release before Vista goes gold I decided to break out a spare drive and give it a shot. Two words (from an aesthetic standpoint at least): Simply amazing...
