  • eVGA 8800GT Video Card -- The Way Games Are Supposed To Be Played

The title of this post is a blatant rip off of nVidia's current tagline; I felt it rings more true than ever with nVidia's newest offering: Their 8800GT is out of this world when it comes to price/performance in video cards. The story behind how I got mine is more interesting than it should be though. I was fortunate enough to purchase one from MWave the day after they were released (most eTailers sold out within hours), and had it overnighted to me for the very reasonable price of about...
  • Half Life 2: Episode 2 -- A Plethora Of New Videos

I haven't even finished Episode 1 yet and already a whole slew of new videos showcasing HL2: Episode 2 are starting to make their way onto the internet. If you have Steam installed I highly recommend hitting the My Media tab, then click on Browse Media and hunt for the 2 trailers and 5 gameplay videos...your eyes will thank you. If you don't have Steam installed I'm sure you can find them on the web somewhere, though I haven't taken the time to track them down. Anyone know the ETA for EP2?
  • Pepsi Giving Away 9072 XBox 360s

Alex Barnett points to a contest that Pepsi is running wherein they are giving away an XBox 360 every 10 minutes for 9 weeks straight (starts at midnight EST). That’s 9072 XBox’s by my (usually wrong on Sunday) math. That’s also about 4.5 million dollars in XBox love (at 500 per console, though they’ll probably get a discount for buying in bulk). I don’t have any numbers in front of me, but I’m guessing they probably make that much in revenues in less than a day, so it’s a miniscule cost…plus people...
  • Half-Life 2 -- The Next Chapter

Via GameSpot ( full article here ): The good news is that Valve is in the final stages of prepping Half-Life 2: Aftermath, the first expansion for Half-Life 2, due out later this year. Valve likes to describe Aftermath as a new "episode" for the franchise, and we know that it picks up immediately after the events of the main game. The Q/A goes on to say that Alyx will have a much bigger role in the new chapter, and that more emphasis will be placed on interaction with NPC’s (non-playable characters...
  • Great Video Showcasing the Half Life 2 Physics Engine

Check out this domino video showcasing the amazing Half Life 2 physics engine (reminds me a little of Honda’s Cog video ). Good stuff, though apparently some people have too much free time on their hands.
  • XBox 360 -- Backwards Compatibility Confirmed

Something all of us XBox Gen 1 owners have been wondering about has been confirmed over at Engadget ; (most) Gen 1 games will run on XBox 360…smart move on Microsoft’s part though I wonder if there will be a performance hit as of course this will have to be done via emulation given that the XBox 360 platform runs on a modified PPC architecture, and the Gen 1 runs on i386, though perhaps there could even be a performance increase as the 360 is packing some serious heat under the hood. What this also...
  • XBox 360 Specs Revealed

The XBox 360 specs aren't too far off what was rumored, have a look at them here . We’ll know more this Thursday , though I’m gonna venture that this is indeed the machine we’ll be seeing come late summer. One word: wow . This thing is gonna be a force to be reckoned with. Hopefully it will have backwards compat with XBox Classic titles; I’m out of a/v ports on my receiver, so once this baby comes out it looks like my XBox Classic will have to be sacrificed. This thing is...
  • XBox Next -- Picture Leak

There are some good shots of XBox Next (now XBox 360) over at Kikizo… go check ‘em out . It looks much smaller than the original…good, the old one is a beast. I also like the silver; it’ll match the rest of my a/v equipment (not that I’m that fickle, but why not). It also looks like MS finally paid some design engineers to simply make it look good …the old one is pretty clunky and plain.
  • Launch Party for XBox Next -- May 12th

MTV is throwing a launch party for XBox Next (or NextBox as I like to call it): May 12th, the date on which the Ourcolony.net viral marketing scheme site is counting down to, marks the global unveiling of the Xbox Next, live on MTV. Elijah Wood will present the half-hour segment that'll be jam packed with celebs gushing over the console, and even a special performance by Killers. I believe the “official” date for NextBox’s release is sometime in mid August, with Halo3 slated sometime...
  • So, Have You Heard the One...

…about the video game that can order a pizza for you? Ok, it doesn’t actually do it for you, but with merely 6 keystrokes (/pizza) while playing Everquest II, you can have a piping hot pizza delivered to your door without missing a beat of gameplay. Don’t believe me? Check this out . Man I’m glad technology like this didn’t exist while I was in college. Why doesn’t Halo 2 have this feature (nudge nudge to the folks over at Bungie …)? Better yet, how about...
