  • So That's How The eSata Drives Generate Revenue Money

My new eSata drive arrived today...Newegg was having a special, so I got 320 gigs for 80 bucks. You can't beat that, save for one thing: It didn't come with an eSata cable. Price of said cable? 20 bucks , and it has to be ordered seeing as no one in a brick and mortar around here carries them. Sounds like a fantastic ploy on the drive makers' parts: Sell the drive for cheap, but charge an arm and a leg for the connectivity. It was still a pretty sweet deal even after having to fork out...
  • Motorola RAZR V3 -- HelloMoto!

After getting some feedback (both on and offline) per my previous post , I decided to go with the Motorola RAZR V3. I checked this phone out when it was released a while back and was very impressed with the form factor, though I was less than impressed with the 500 dollar price tag. At the current price of 200 bucks, a little more palatable. I had forgotten just how sexy this little piece of hardware is, it’s so unbelievably thin…yet it feels incredibly solid due to the extensive use of metal throughout...
  • On Software Development and Gender

Alex’s post about “The Steve Rule” got me to thinking about software development groups I’ve worked with in the past. Software development (and engineering in general) is a male dominated field; from my own experience I’ve only worked on 2 projects with members of the opposite sex…other than that, I’ve always been in male-only groups. Another trend I’ve noticed is that most (more than 80%) of the QA folks I’ve worked with have indeed been females...
  • Wireless Battery Powered External Harddrive Anyone?

When will one of the big players in wireless tech/storage tech come out with a wireless, battery powered (rechargeable of course), external harddrive? The technology infrastructure is there; wireless bits are zipping around pretty quick as of late (up to 108mbs with some specific hardware, which is plenty fast for general business use (in my case, loading up VS solutions from an external hdd), still a bit off from USB2 speeds, but plenty fast). I love my external harddrive (which houses anything...
  • Google Dropping Bloggers? My Take...

I should preface this with “I’m not attempting to spread FUD” as I’m not entirely convinced that it’s true…actually, I’m not convinced at all. But there are some reports in the blogosphere ( here , here , here , and here …among others) all saying the same thing; their Google page ranking has dropped either significantly, or doesn’t exist altogether. In the case of the first link , I believe he’s running into the same issues I did earlier...
  • Sirius Satellite Radio -- Undervalued Stock?

With the impending migration of Howard Stern over to Sirius Satellite Radio ( here and here ), I've given some thought to snatching up some of their stock (ticker symbol SIRI ) while it's still a very reasonable buy (flopping around five bucks a share), plus it just jumped from 1 "strong buy" to 6. My opinion of satellite radio is that it will be the "internet" (read: huge innovation) of the airwaves, sans commercials and FCC oversight...a good thing. Any thoughts on this? Sounding board is on ....
  • Disposable (Self Destructing) DVD's?

I hope this catches on with mainstream movies. I've gotten to a point where I hate movie theaters...to the point where I almost refuse to go see anything in the theater whatsoever. They're cold, expensive, ya gotta get up and actually drive to them...plus the only nights I really have free to go see new flicks is the same night that every high school kid in Charlotte goes to see them as well; they constantly roam around the theater, are noisy, bring their mobile phones, etc etc etc. I'd pay 5 bucks...
  • GMail Gripes

Found some gripes with GMail (actually was going to write about 3 gripes, but they just fixed one of them recently...not letting you navigate away from an unsent email without prompting you to save it/send it/whatever...similar to what .Text does for posts). The gripe is: Email address autocomplete only works for multiple addresses seperated with a comma (if the previous email address is autocompleted, a comma is automatically inserted after the address, for email addresses keyed in manually, it...
  • All's Well That Ends Well

My most recent contract is up (funny how a 3 month contract ends after...well...3 months). It was an interesting experience, plus I got to work with some of the fine folks from Avanade on a medium size project towards the end. Nice guys, and damn good at what they do for a living. So what's next for Jayson? To be honest, I'm a little burnt out on coding lately...I'm probably going to take some time off for family/friends/pets/etc as I've barely seen any of them lately. I'll be doing some small project...
  • BizTalk Almighty

I ran across this post today and wanted to (briefly) drop my two cents. I worked with BizTalk 2000 way back in the day (circa 2001) and immediately fell in love with the product (enough to run out and get certified ( 663335/NotANumber) on it). There was a small problem though: No one had jumped on the BizTalk bandwagon yet, so my experiences were limited to outside consulting for companies that were looking to implement some sort of EDI solution without the hassle of...well...writing one themselves...
