  • Valve's Orange Box -- A Great Way to Spend Less Time With Friends and Family

First off, add me as friend over on Steam Community! If the little things in life like spending quality time with family, friends, pets, etc are important to you then I would highly recommend not purchasing the latest offering from Valve Software: The Orange Box . The majority of my weekend has been spent playing a smattering of Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. Of the 3, I've spent most of the time playing Portal which from a purely gameplay point of view is one of the more...
  • So That's How The eSata Drives Generate Revenue Money

My new eSata drive arrived today...Newegg was having a special, so I got 320 gigs for 80 bucks. You can't beat that, save for one thing: It didn't come with an eSata cable. Price of said cable? 20 bucks , and it has to be ordered seeing as no one in a brick and mortar around here carries them. Sounds like a fantastic ploy on the drive makers' parts: Sell the drive for cheap, but charge an arm and a leg for the connectivity. It was still a pretty sweet deal even after having to fork out...
  • Switching From Microsoft To Logitech Input Devices

I've been a longtime user and fan of Microsoft input devices (keyboard/mouse)...pretty much ever since I made the move from Mac to Windows 9 years ago. That era is coming to an end as I'm transitioning over to Logitech hardware in my home office. Whereas Microsoft is all business with a touch of flash and a lot of comfort, Logitech is more about expanded functionality with a lot of flair. In the workplace, I'm sticking with the Microsoft Natural line of products since I do about 10x as...
  • This Could Only Happen In North Carolina

A while back, the story about inhaleable alcohol broke over the internet (I can't find the specific link, but this was announced several years ago in 2004). Fast forward to today, and there's an article floating around stating the machines have been banned in my home state of North Carolina (in addition to 21 other states). My home state is at the very center of the bible belt, and is also a haven for commercial televangelism so it's not a huge surprise until you factor in the following...
  • Well That Turned Out To Be A Nightmare

Twenty days since my last post...in the 3+ years I've been running this blog I don't think I've ever gone that long. Hopefully the two of you that read this site haven't jumped ship quite yet. Regardless... The job that I was so incredibly stoked about turned out to be quite the nightmare, and thus my brief tenure there has ended. Long story short, I was actively seeking other employment opportunities, they found out (I wasn't exactly trying to be stealthy) and weren't too happy about it so we mutually...
  • "Rome" Is Off To A Fantastic Start

"Rome" on HBO (stateside at least) was one of the sleeper hits from summer of '05... the wiki is pretty interesting . The season premier for season 2 aired this past weekend, and it seems to be off to a fantastic start. Unfortunately due to production costs, this will be the final season. Bummer. Generally speaking I don't get into characters from TV shows too much, but wow do I feel for Vorenus . Marc Antony is shaping up to be a force to be reckoned with as well. Eagerly anticipating episodes to...
  • Scam Update -- Final Chapter (And Other Stuff)

One of those sleepless nights, and I realized I never did really sew up what happened with all the scam BS that happened a few months ago. In short, nothing really happened. My bank A) transferred most of the funds I had lost into my savings account and B) allowed me to cash it all out. I appreciate the donations that came in (which in hindsite I realize was a pretty tacky thing to ask for, but hey...desperate times call for desperate measures) and have paid most of them back. Outstanding invoices...
  • Can You Judge An Office By Its Cover?

[Update] I do know the answer to this, it's just a (somewhat) hypothetical question. [/update] First a little background before I delve into the meat of this post. I've been working from home for about the past year and half on a variety of different small to medium size projects (mainly focused on Community Server of course, but have had various other requests roll in as well) under my name, and while it's been a great experience I've decided that as part of the JK reorganization...

  • Calling All Geeks Named Scott

While I was setting up my mirrored content section and adding blogs, I counted no less than 5 blogs belonging to a Scott (and I'm not even done adding content yet). I guess Scott is to geeks as Jason is to American males in the 25-35 year old age range ( read my Sidenote here ). So calling all Scott's! If your name is Scott and A) consider yourself a geek B) have a blog, leave a quick comment...let's see how many of you guys are out there! Share this post: | | | | |

  • I'm Thinking About Buying An Electric Scooter

Gas prices are soaring (and yes, before any European readers comment I do realize that gas in Europe is 3x as much as it is here in The Colonies), insurance is ridiculous given how rarely I used to drive, and I usually don’t venture more than 5–10 miles from my house anyways. The one I’m looking at is this one . Anyone out there on the Scooter bandwagon? It really would be a good solution IMO. My next car will more than likely be a hybrid (I’m over trying to look “cool”...
