  • Firefox 1.5 Released Into the Wild

As has been posted forwards, backwards, and all over the web, Firefox 1.5 has been released to the general public (notice there is also a new website for Firefox and Thunderbird). I haven’t decided if I’m going to upgrade yet due to the fact that I had major issues with the 1.5 RC3 release concerning extension compatibility…I might just give it a while to let all the extension devs sort things out with the RTW as I have quite a few extensions I simply cannot live without. Maybe...
  • Click the Red Tab, Click the Blue Tab

This is my favorite Firefox extension du jour . The author says he lifted the idea from OneNote …that being said, I’d love to see Microsoft incorporate this idea into other applications that use tabs (Visual Studio?)…after just a couple hours of using it and I’m hooked on the concept; we are visually oriented after all, right? Simple, yet elegant…I love it.
  • Upgrade to Firefox 1.5 RC3? I Recommend Waiting...

I gave the new Firefox 1.5 RC3 release a test drive over the weekend…it was one of the shortest test drives in history though and lasted long enough for me to find the Firefox 1.0.7 download to revert to the previous version (which worked flawlessly amazingly enough…try doing that with other software). Unfortunately Shannon happened to message me online right as I was upgrading and was victim to a slew of 4 letter words (sorry about that) from me saying exactly where the mozilla devs...
  • Internet Explorer Usage on JaysonKnight.com Down to 60%

    Seeing this article earlier reminded me to check my site’s browser statistics. Here are the top 20 browsers used to hit this site (for the last 10,000 page hits): 58.92% MSIE 6.0 9.66% Firefox 1.0.6 8.88% Mozilla 4.0 5.29% Firefox 1.0.4 4.88% Firefox 1.0.7 2.41% Mozilla 5.0 1.85% Mozilla 3.01 1.30% MSIE 7.0 0.86% Firefox 1.4.1 0.77% Firefox 1.0 0.61% Safari 1.2 0.55% Firefox 1.0.5 0.31% Firefox 1.0+ 0.28% Firefox 1.4 0.27% Firefox 1.0.3 0.19% Opera 8.50 0.19% Firefox 1.0.1 0.18% MSIE 5.5 0.18% Firefox...
  • Huge Firefox Gripe -- Duplicating a Firefox Installation

My new local domain is about 90% up and running, one of the last things I had left to do (add my laptop to the domain) I did earlier today; I didn’t care about my user settings on my other machines but needed to preserve those settings on my laptop…I’m still amazed at what a total pain in the ass it is to copy a user profile. In my case, it entailed the following: Add the machine to the domain. Login with my domain user account to get a default profile. Backed up my Outlook address book/rules/etc...
  • New Version of Google Toolbar for Firefox Breaks Autocomplete

I posted earlier about losing autocomplete after a recent round of upgrades to Firefox; it turns out it wasn’t the upgrade to 1.0.7 itself, but an updated version of the Google Toolbar for Firefox …on a hunch I removed that extension, restarted Firefox, and voila…autocomplete works again, and my entire autocomplete history came back as well. I was also able to duplicate this behavior on another machine, so that’s definitely the culprit. I can’t find a way to submit...
  • Firefox 1.0.7 Disables Autocomplete?

I really hope I’m missing something simple here, but after updating to Firefox 1.0.7 the autocomplete feature of Firefox seems to not be working…and I mean all of it; the Google search bar, all fields on sites I’ve visited…nothing is autocompleting. There is simply no way this was done on purpose…that would be a huge breaking change. Anyone else seeing this behavior?
  • Firefox 1.5 Beta 1 Has Been Released

Firefox 1.5 (Deer Park) beta 1 has been released. Check out the release notes here . The most notable new feature (IMO, and one that should have been in from the start) is the first bullet: Automated update to streamline product upgrades. Notification of an update is more prominent, and updates to Firefox may now be half a megabyte or smaller. Updating extensions has also improved. It’s about damn time…having to download the entire Firefox binary for updates is a total PITA. I’ll...
  • Firefox Security Track Record

Prefacing this with “not trying to get into my browser is better than yours” conversation. That being said, there have been 44 known security issues in Firefox since the 1.0 release back in November. I don’t have the IE (or any other software) numbers in front of me, but my initial guess is that this is pretty on-par for commercial grade software (if anyone has comparable numbers, please share). So what is the point of this post then? Proprietary or open source, paid developers...
  • Serious Productivity Killer for Firefox

Whatever you do, do not…I repeat, do not install this extension for Firefox. [edit] fixed link, there were 2 http:// in the href. [/edit]
