  • BlogJet Users -- RFC for Adding Tag Support

In an effort to get on the tagging bandwagon I contacted the folks over at BlogJet about adding support for tagging into their wonderful posting tool. In true developer style, they emailed me back asking how I would like to see it implemented. The obvious answer is to add another dropdown next to the post categories box; the values could be stored in a simple XML file that has an interface via the preferences dialog…selecting the tags would inject the necessary html to the end of the post. In a perfect...
  • Some Site/RSS Feed Updates

Nothing too major on this round of updates; post categories are displayed on individual post pages (I will expand this to the main feed within the next couple of days), and post categories are displayed are displayed in feed readers that support this functionality (and more importantly, new posts will ping technorati/etc with these categories…there’s an Easter egg in the CS API that already supported this, was just a matter of tracking it down over on CS.org). Does anyone have any other...
  • Change is in the Air

I had previously stated that I wasn’t going to upgrade to Community Server 1.1 …well, I changed my mind after seeing the new Iroha skin being offered for the new version…what a great skin! So I took the plunge a couple of hours ago and upgraded; it was actually pretty painless due to Ken’s single blog configuration file generator …just plug in the url names you want and his tool will automagically generate the correct SiteUrls.config file, it’s then just a matter...
  • Request for Comment: How Many Atom Subscribers Do I Have?

If you subscribe to this feed via Atom, please drop me a comment either here or via the Contact Me box; reason being is that I’m thinking of dropping the Atom feed for a bit until either A) I can fix it, or B) Telligent fixes it. What’s wrong with it? Well, if you subscribe via Atom, I’m sure it’s pretty obvious. If you don’t, it has the same issues that have been plaguing my Rss feed, as well as a few more for good measure. I started going over the Atom code in CS and...
  • Community Server -- New Site Fixes Rolled Out

I’ve rolled out some new fixes for JaysonKnight.com (and hopefully this will be the last Community Server post for a while, my site is finally at a pretty decent state of being). Fixes include: Comment pages are more like my old site now; when clicking “post a comment”, the comment form is displayed inline with existing comments, and below them. I have a formatting issue I’m running into…the previous comments’ text size shows up fairly large while posting a comment;...
  • Comment API Is Working...Finally

Well, for the most part. Comments should now be downloadable in any feed reader that supports Comment API. Unfortunately, all comments will show up as being posted by ‘Anonymous’ (again, a CS issue); that’s next on my list of bugs to slay (the list is looking pretty short now, thank god)…showing who actually posted the comment is a good thing (the site itself shows this correctly, so if you’re really curious just check there). The ability to post comments from a feed...
  • Comment API Not Working

(Yet another post for my RSS folks, thanks to Phil for bringing this to my attention). It would appear that Comment API isn’t working in Community Server. The number of comments are displayed correctly, but the actual comments aren’t (and you can’t post from readers that support comment posting via the Comment API). Aaaargh. Once again, I’ve pinged the folks over at Telligent and hopefully will have a fix soon. In the interim, just use the site itself if you feel inclined.
  • My RSS Feed's Timezone is Off by +5

(Another one for the RSS folks). It’s come to my attention that the timezone for my RSS feed is set to GMT (5 hours ahead of my timezone, EST). I don’t see a setting in the CS admin pages to set the RSS timezone; I’ve pinged the folks over at Telligent and should have it remedied soon. I’m amazed at how many bugs CS shipped with. No real showstoppers, but a lot of little annoying things. I realize that it’s FOSS (and I really appreciate all the work that Telligent put into it), so I guess you get...
  • Hello From JaysonKnight.com/Community Server 1.0!

It's been a long day, but I have finally moved everything over to JaysonKnight.com (and over to Community Server 1.0). I've written code to automatically forward all HTTP/RSS requests for the old domain to the appropriate page on my new domain (and it's working better than I thought it would; any RSS subscribers will have duplicates of my last 20 or so posts :-)), but that's still no excuse to not update any links you have to my old domain as invariably I will turn the zerotrilogy.gotdns.com site...
  • More Site News -- Decisions Decisions

After some deliberation, I've decided to move my server out of my house and into a co-hosting location; I simply can't afford the bandwidth anymore as my site continues to grow (I never would have thought I'd get anywhere near the amount of traffic I'm getting at this point...the activity light on my router blinks pretty much all day, plus I'm sick of the administration overhead of trying to run 3 boxes, I need to get back down to 2). Any recommendations on good .Net hosting companies? Before I do...
