Today's tidbit is a bit of a deviation from my previous tidbit posts in that I'm doing a demo via a screencast (I'm taking a cue from J-O Eriksson). I've posted about the new blog mirroring feature in CS2.1 numerous times, and now that beta 1 has been released I figured it was time to post about exactly how to go about mirroring content in CS as this is definitely one of the coolest new features in the new release.
It's worth mentioning that a couple of the steps in the screencast are optional, but are Jayson's recommended "best practices" for mirroring content. They are:
- Creating a new blog group is optional, but will assist in categorizing mirrored content. For example, if you wanted to create an ASP.NET blog group, you could just mirror ASP.NET related content to that group. You could then create a WinForms group and do the same. Ad nauseam.
- You do not have to disable comments or trackbacks, but I think the original poster would appreciate it; if a user does want to leave a comment or trackback they have to visit the originating site itself.
Before mirroring ANY content, make sure you are not violating that site's Terms of Service, or making any copyright infringements.
NOTE: Right click the video, go to zoom, and choose full screen for better clarity. A direct link to the screencast is here. I will also follow up on this post with a more technical explanation of mirroring content (along with some caveats and gotchas) that are outside the realm of this post.
