From the Community Server announcements blog:
Yes, we know things have been quiet on CommunityServer.org for the last two months. We've been hard at work on CS 2.1 development as well planning for CS 3.0.
Yesterday, we updated CommunityServer.org with the latest CS 2.1 bits. What's in CS 2.1? Well, I'll give you a high level overview and we'll provide more details as the release date for CS 2.1 draws near. Things you'll find in CS 2.1:
1) Bug Fixes - this is the primary focus of the CS 2.1 release. We still have quite a ways to go but we've resolved 81 bugs to date.
2) Make things easier - we felt pretty good about the Control Panel UI for CS 2.0 but we knew there was lots more we could do (there always is right?). The blog management pieces of Control Panel have undergone a facelift and are now super simple to use, navigate, and understand.
3) Tags - perhaps the only major "feature" that snuck its way in to 2.1. Tags are more or less a replacement for categories in blogs but can also be applied to forum posts, etc. We're providing a tag cloud like module too so you can have that Web 2.0 feel to your community.
When will CS 2.1 be released? CS 2.1 will be released in July, 2006.
Of course the announcement of the ship date being moved back to July has caused some groans throughout the community, but it’ll be done when it’s done.
In other CS related news, Telligent has also announced that they are beefing up their support procedures in the near future due to the explosion in size of the CS user base. Aside from the core Telligent team stepping in on the forums whenever possible, there have literally only been about a dozen of us manning the CS.org forums, plus a lot of the requests appear to be hosting related/environmental, which sucks because there’s usually nothing we can do to fix the issue which has led to some frustration from CS users. I look forward to seeing what Telligent comes up with.
Also, since CS.org has been updated to the latest 2.1 bits, I will get my CS test site back up and running sometime within the very near future.
