After about a week’s worth of tweaking/tracking down obscure little upgrade bugs/etc (hence the deafening silence around here lately), I finally pulled the switch on JK.com v.4 earlier today; of course it’s running on Community Server v.2 RTM which was released yesterday afternoon. I’ve been playing around with CS2.0 since the early internal alpha builds, but the RTM feels so much more refined than previous versions, not to mention that the revised admin section is much more intuitive and simple to use. JK.com also feels quite a bit snappier on the new release. Ken Robertson’s neat Qgyen.ExtendedUrlMapping CS utility got me up and running in “single user” mode in all of 5 minutes, a huge improvement over the 1.x versions’ very tedious way of setting this up.
For now I’m using the default CS “pistachio” theme, but will be rolling with a new theme once the community skinning folks start releasing new stuff…it’s actually a pretty good looking theme IMO, nice and relaxing; but of course I’ll start making CSS tweaks as I see fit. It’s also worth mentioning that the gallery section of CS2.0 shipped with a new theme called Glimmer (which is the name I suggested; Telligent always has an internal theme naming email threads for new themes and for once they used my suggestion! <g>) which is a very simple, polished layout for my pictures. The other major changes to JK.com are the addition of a downloads section, as well as an external news section where I’ll “roll” my favorite feeds together, and blog posts now support attachments (aka enclosures) which I’m sure I’ll be using quite a bit. RSS feeds are available for all the feed reader junkies out there.
So, a huge congratulations over to the folks at Telligent for getting this puppy out of the door. Beers all around! Now hopefully I can get back to regular posting.
