This is my attempt at starting an internet meme (zero expectations, so it can’t fail). Haacked did it a while back, so hey why not? The premise is simple enough: Try to think back to what you wanted to do for a living at a specific age, i.e. start at age 4, then 8, etc…or 5, 10…but keep a constant number of years between ages. Here’s my list:
- 4: I wanted to be a garbage man, or a bus driver (yeah, my mother was absolutely thrilled at the high standards I set for myself). I just liked the big trucks.
- 8: I wanted to be a paleontologist. I think every kid on the planet eventually goes through this stage…I was an absolute dinosaur fanatic around this time.
- 12: I wanted to be a lawyer (actually my mother was the first to mention this; I was a very argumentative kid and it was around this time that I actually started winning my arguments with her so she said “hey, you should be a lawyer.” I’m really glad I changed my mind).
- 16: I wanted to be an artist, mainly because I thought chicks dug the whole starving artist syndrome (ok not really). Specifically I wanted to be an architect, and almost went to college to be one. This is also around the time I got really interested in linguistics which would have been my second choice.
- 20: Two years into my chemistry major, the goal was ultimately to head off to medical school to ultimately study anesthesiology. I never returned for my junior year and got caught up in the dotcom world, which led where I’m at today.
- 24: It was around this time that I started seriously considering devoting more time and energy into pursuing something in the music realm, something which I’m still considering once I get more financially comfortable.
- 28: We’ll see in 3 months!
Part 2: If you could be doing anything (and I mean anything) besides what you’re doing for a living today, what would it be? It cannot be related to the field you’re in now, i.e. if you’re a programmer it can’t be anything technology/science related. Me personally? I think the ultimate job would be as a world famous professional DJ. I’m a serious night owl, plus these guys get paid huge amounts of money to simply (actually it’s not that simple these days) play music that they love (and sometimes have created on their own) for other people.
Part 3: What is something you would never ever even remotely consider doing for a living (and it needs to be in the professional realm, i.e. I’m sure none of us would want to be a sewer inspector or whatnot). For me, there isn’t enough money in the world that could ever entice me to be a politician. Never. Period.
So that’s it, my “attempt” at a meme, and also a little more insight into the dude behind JK.com. If anyone decides to continue on with this, link back so I can see what you’re saying! Cheers.
