Firefox 1.5 Released Into the Wild

As has been posted forwards, backwards, and all over the web, Firefox 1.5 has been released to the general public (notice there is also a new website for Firefox and Thunderbird).  I haven’t decided if I’m going to upgrade yet due to the fact that I had major issues with the 1.5 RC3 release concerning extension compatibility…I might just give it a while to let all the extension devs sort things out with the RTW as I have quite a few extensions I simply cannot live without.  Maybe in a month or so.

That all being said, Firefox is one of (if not the most) successful OSS projects ever released, and it’s probably one of my favorite (non-developer related) applications I use on a daily basis besides Outlook.  Security issues aside (and there really haven’t been that many), the Firefox guys pretty much nailed it on the first try, and with the 1.5 release I would most definitely consider this a “mature” product.

I keep meaning to hack together a post listing all the extensions I use; I use enough that I would probably have to promote the post to article status as it would be pretty long…so perhaps I’ll work on that this weekend.

About Jayson Knight

Jayson Knight was clueless to the computer programming world until he took a C++ class in college. The rest is proverbial history. He has been building applications targeting the .Net framework for 7 years, focusing mainly on internet technologies and database driven web application development.

Most recently he left the world of Corporate IT to finish up his degree in Chemistry, with an eye on Medical School and an Anesthesiology residency program. Read this post for more information.

He is also a Community Server MVP: Community Server is the software that runs this site, plus many others on the web. For more information, check out http://csmvps.com.

When he finds time to pry himself away from his computer and university studies, he can be found on the mountain bike trails when it's warm, and on the ski slopes when it's cold.
