I tried to go to bed around midnight, couldn’t sleep…and decided to get some work done on this site. For starters, I think I’ve all but eliminated the SqlException timeouts…I got a good SqlTrace over the weekend and have completely reindexed my SQL Server database based on the data I logged, and I also ran the Surface Area Configuration tool and disabled a bunch of crap that I didn’t realize was enabled on a default installation of SQL Server 2005. My stress tests on a test installation yielded no timeouts, so hopefully that’s ancient history, but please let me know if you guys see any timeouts.
I also backported the new Community Server 2.0 RSS feed XSL stylesheets to my site (click here to see this in action…looks a lot better than a raw XML document eh?)…just another step to make this site more Google friendly as my RSS feed gets quite a few hits. In addition, I added Dan Bartels fantastic Google SiteMap addon for CS to my site…view the site index here and my blog’s sitemap here (yeah, raw XML, but it gets the job done…just generate these docs on your site, submit them to Google, and results will happen). It’s a very simple format, easy to generate.
I've also been working on what I like to call a RSLS (really simple logging service) for .Net applications...it's been a work in progress of mine for a few months now, and it's nearing beta status (hopefully) pretty soon...think of it as a lightweight replacement for Log4Net (which is a total PITA to get working IMO). It's custom attribute driven, and handles all logging behind the scenes with a single method call to the library...I'm pretty excited about it actually, and need some testers soon (nudge nudge).
So yeah…it’s been a productive night afterall. Now what to do about that whole sleep thing…might as well stay up at this point.
