I came across this thread earlier today…if what it says is true, MSDN subscribers should have Visual Studio 2005 RTM in their hands by this weekend. Other notable quotes from the thread (again, nothing confirmed):
- “RC1's build number was 2.0.50727.26. I've heard that the RTM's build number is 2.0.50727.42.”
- “…since SQL Server 2005 Express comes with VS2005, i think it's safe to say that will RTM as well.”
- “Yeah, this is interesting. The rumours at PDC were all around "Orcas is going to be out sooner than anybody thinks - in the Vista timeframe" - that now seems to have been abandoned with talks of a point release 2.1 of .Net coinciding with Vista instead.
Other information (file under "rumour control" but like I said I trust the source): Vista will be RTMed end of July 2006 because to get OEM versions on new PCs for Christmas that's the deadline that's needed - seems a crazily early deadline for Christmas shipments to me, but that's the story. Much earlier than I was expecting.
Vista Beta 2 will be out in December.
Office 12 Beta 1 will be available on MSDN Subscriber downloads (a surprise to me but I guess it makes sense to make it as widely available as possible to the developer community - good marketing!).”
To be taken with a grain of salt of course, but this would be fantastic news. Fingers are crossed!
