Alex Barnett points to a contest that Pepsi is running wherein they are giving away an XBox 360 every 10 minutes for 9 weeks straight (starts at midnight EST). That’s 9072 XBox’s by my (usually wrong on Sunday) math. That’s also about 4.5 million dollars in XBox love (at 500 per console, though they’ll probably get a discount for buying in bulk). I don’t have any numbers in front of me, but I’m guessing they probably make that much in revenues in less than a day, so it’s a miniscule cost…plus people like me will now be purchasing Pepsi products over their Coke counterparts for the next 72 days bolstering revenues even more. Their website is running pretty slow, no doubt because of geeks everywhere having a look…and at second glance it’s written in PhP?!?
I haven’t consumed a caffeinated beverage in 6 months or so (and have no plans to do so), so I hope Mountain Dew and Pepsi aren’t the only drinks that have codes. This looks like it’s gonna be a really cool contest!
Sidenote: I’ve never won anything beyond the occassional free drink or whatnot (ok that’s sort of a lie…I won movie tickets on a local radio contest when I was 13…it was for Sleeping With the Enemy which is rated R, so I couldn’t even go…thus it doesn’t count), so either I’m due for a change in luck, or my dry spell will continue. That being said, I don’t really enter that many contests…I play the power ball sometimes, and I do enter the Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstakes every year (though I don't live in a trailer park so I'll never win that). I even entered a raffle this year for a custom Serotta road bike (the odds there appear to be pretty good as only 1000 tickets are being sold and when I got mine in the mail, I was number 140…I plan on inquiring how many have been sold total a week before the drawing, if the number is still low I’ll buy some more) worth over 10 large. Where is the love?
