From CNN (full article here):
HBO has pulled up stakes on "Carnivale," opting not to order a third season of the circus-set Dust Bowl drama.
Shannon isn’t surprised (in his words, ‘Carnivale jumped the shark towards the end of season 2’). I disagree, and I’m very surprised. It appears to be more politically motivated than anything else; a quick Googling points to the main writer of Carnivale jumping ship to Showtime to write a comedy (!?!). I’m pissed…the story was just getting going. Again, from the article (emphasis mine):
"We have decided not to renew 'Carnivale,' " said Carolyn Strauss, president of entertainment at HBO, in a statement. "We feel the two seasons we had on the air told the story very well and we are proud of what everyone associated with the show has accomplished."
Huh? Like I said above, the story was just getting going with Sophie turning out to have “the power” as well, guess we’ll never really know what’s up though. Whatever man, what a piss poor decision IMO. Info for an online petition can be found here.
Carnivale is probably the best show I’ve seen on TV in recent history; perhaps it’s only equal was Twin Peaks even though I was a little young to really grasp the full depth of it. Oh well.
