HBO Cancels 'Carnivale'

From CNN (full article here):

HBO has pulled up stakes on "Carnivale," opting not to order a third season of the circus-set Dust Bowl drama.

Shannon isn’t surprised (in his words, ‘Carnivale jumped the shark towards the end of season 2’).  I disagree, and I’m very surprised.  It appears to be more politically motivated than anything else; a quick Googling points to the main writer of Carnivale jumping ship to Showtime to write a comedy (!?!).  I’m pissed…the story was just getting going.  Again, from the article (emphasis mine):

"We have decided not to renew 'Carnivale,' " said Carolyn Strauss, president of entertainment at HBO, in a statement. "We feel the two seasons we had on the air told the story very well and we are proud of what everyone associated with the show has accomplished."

Huh?  Like I said above, the story was just getting going with Sophie turning out to have “the power” as well, guess we’ll never really know what’s up though.  Whatever man, what a piss poor decision IMO.  Info for an online petition can be found here.

Carnivale is probably the best show I’ve seen on TV in recent history; perhaps it’s only equal was Twin Peaks even though I was a little young to really grasp the full depth of it.  Oh well.

Sorry for your dissappointment, Jayson. I had high hopes for Carnivale but it never did it for me. Deadwood, on the other hand, fills my entertainment quota completely. I often watch it twice through the week. If you haven't seen it and you like Carnivale, you really must check it out.

Hey, Rome coming this fall looks like it might be cool, too.

Manual trackback here for my post on the subject:

Dave is right about Deadwood, it may be the best show to ever grace the television.

I loved this show...having just watched seasons one and two on Netflix...I was wondering if that was the end or not....

I have not been this engrossed in a show since the Sopranos.

I love these characters and I am sad to hear that the journey may end......

Why they cancel shows like Carnivale and let trash like ENTORAGE run is beyond me.  Who needs another episode of some Bam Margera look alike being a facetious cunt?
