Another Charlotte Blogger -- Bill Jones Jr.

Looks like the head of our local Developers Guild group is blogging (thanks to Shannon for the 411) over on GeeksWithBlogsDrop by when you get a chance, not much there for now…then again he has only been blogging for a day.  I had the pleasure of working with Bill on a project about 2 years ago…super nice guy and he’s been writing code *forever*.  He was one of those guys who you wondered if he ever slept, he was always cooking up something new, and was just an all around jovial guy.  He once brought me a cup of coffee during my first week with the team (just doing the natural “welcome to the new guy” type thing); unbeknownst to him I don’t drink coffee, or pretty much anything caffeinated (aside from the occassional Dr. Pepper), and he said to me “so how does it feel knowing that this is the most awake you’re going to feel all day…it’s all downhill from here”!  Funny stuff.

I actually just received an email from Bill just now asking why I wasn’t at the Charlotte Code Camp (and that I could have been a presenter.  Doh!).  That’s actually a very good question, I guess it kinda snuck up on me and I didn’t plan ahead?  Who knows.  Oh wait, that’s right…I’ve been locked in my apartment for the last few days studying COM/COM+ for my upcoming interview with Microsoft (more on that later)!  There were plenty of local bloggers there.  So maybe next year Bill, or at any of the Guild functions.  What would I talk about?  Either anonymous methods in v2.0 of the CLR, or asynchronous callbacks from client script in ASP.NET 2.0…both of which are going to kick oh so much butt.

Sidenote:  I have only 2 phobias:  Needles, and public speaking.  I’ve done my fair share of presentations/driving meetings/etc, but I always have the same initial reaction.  A few minutes into it and then I’m always fine.  What’s even stranger is that the larger the crowd, the more ok I am with getting up and potentially making an arse out of myself.  Wierd.
