I meant to post about this a while back, but what with all the migration stuff that’s been going on, it slipped through the clutter I call my brain. Anyways…
First off, if you’ve never heard of Digitally Imported Radio (and are a fan of electronic music), stop reading this and go over to their site. They are a free streaming audio company that caters mainly to the electronica crowd, and the quality isn’t that bad for the free streams (96k if you use WinAmp…and you should be using WinAmp regardless (for anything audio related at least)). If you are willing to shell out some moolah, you can access higher quality streams (up to 192k; CD quality). I’ve been listening for a couple of years now, but noticed that they recently (month or so ago) added a new channel called Progressive. I have heard some absolutely slammin’ tracks/mixes over the past couple of weeks on that stream, the best (IMO) being Renaissance presents James Zabiela - Alive (which I had to promptly order)…it’s an amazing blend of progressive breaks/psyprog breaks/straight house/trance (yeah, he runs the full gamut of the electronica spectrum in the mix which is what’s so amazing about it). If you’ve got 17 bucks, go order it now.
Anyways, I’ve pretty much left the stream on 24/7 and am ecstatic that DI added this channel; my CD collection was getting a little rusty and I’ve discovered a ton of new artists to get new material from. If you’re into progressive house in any way shape or form, I recommend tuning into this stream (WinAmp .pls link) now. DI also offers XML syndication (scroll to the bottom) to all of their playlists as well, so you can roll your own frontend if you’d like (as Ray has done on his site), or in my case a service that automatically orders everything on the playlists from Amazon (ok, not really…). Enjoy.
Sidenote: I have an FTP alias to my music collection (over 3000 tracks, close to 30 gigs, mostly electronica/dj mixes). It is username/password protected, but I’m more than happy to bequeath access to a limited number of people. Ping me for more info. Fuck the RIAA.
