I've been following Electoral Vote (it's getting hit pretty hard, be patient) for a while now; it's been interesting to follow the lead changes, and there's been some good commentary by the web(vote)master (who has until now remained anonymous) throughout the life of the site. There has been quite a bit of speculation about the identity of this individual, with most thoughts leaning towards someone from a gov't (perhaps Clinton era?) background. Lo and behold it turns out to be Andrew Tanenbaum...incredible. If you've been in the computer realm for longer than 2 seconds, this name should be instantly recognizable (e.g. he wrote MINIX, which was a precursor to Linux...has written numerous books about OS design. etc), he's up there with Torvalds, Stroustroup, etc. His short bio on electoral vote speaks for itself. While I'm not shocked it's someone from a strong math background, I'm very pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be Tanenbaum. That definitely made my day.
Tomorrow is d-day for America's political future (and perhaps the world's). I haven't posted any political tyrades, and I don't intend on starting now; that being said, it's no mystery who'll be getting my ballot tomorrow. To be honest, I'm not particularly thrilled with either candidate, but I have a pretty strong disdain for Bush for obvious reasons. So, this time Mr. President...yes, it's personal. People, please go vote, it's up to us.
