Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1 Install - Roundup

Just wanted to consolidate my four posts on my VS.NET 2005 installation woes into one.

Finally got the bits for Beta 1 of VS.NET 2005, and about 20 minutes into the install I get the following error:

---------------------------
Visual Studio 2005 Beta Setup
---------------------------
Error 1311.Source file not found: z:\vs\_13245_NETCF2_Debugger.msm.cab.  Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.
---------------------------
Retry   Cancel
---------------------------

I have a feeling it has more to do with the ISO mounting software I use rather than the VS.NET setup program, however I was trying to avoid having to unpack the enormous 3.5 gig ISO image.  So, looks like I get to go that route regardless.  Updates as they present themselves...

I'm having no luck...unpacked the ISO, attempted a reinstall, and am getting the following error:

---------------------------

Visual Studio 2005 Beta Setup

---------------------------

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2337.

---------------------------

OK

---------------------------

I have no idea what's up...attempting to re-dl the package and try again.  Seems logical enough...

I'm still wrestling with installation of VS.NET 2005...re-dl'd the package, still having the same issues.  I'm not the only one running into problems (he had the exact same issues, and I'm having the same issues as this commenter after following the steps outlined in the post).  It's baffling as I had no issues with any of the pre-betas whatsoever.  I'm about to relegate this to the trash bin and give up; if anyone has successfully installed beta 1, let me know.  Cheers.

Decided to give a little more effort into getting VS.NET 2005 Beta 1 installed.  After some more googling (more time has passed since the release, so I found plenty of good articles), the general consensus seemed to be recommending using Alcohol, which I had heard of before...but if MS's own virtual ISO mounting software wasn't working, why would another?  Incredibly, using Alcohol worked perfectly.  I am halfway through the MSDN installation now, and will start posting my findings with VS.NET as I make my way through it.

Alcohol is probably my most widely used app; whenever I'm out and about with my laptop I like to pass the travelling time playing games but don't want to run the risk of losing or damaging the disks. Alcohol uses some sort of clever magic to emulate a wide range of copy-protection schemes, allowing you to take images of disks that would otherwise fail.

The relevance? My guess would be that (for some obscure and unfathomable reason) the ISO you downloaded was taken from a disk with copy-protection on it, or was damaged in some way that matches how some copy-protection schemes work...

(Add IsoBuster to your arsenal, and you should pretty much never have a duff image or CD again.)

@ Clayton

Using Alcohol (www.alcohol-soft.com) worked like a champ for me. Give it a shot, and let us know if that worked for you.
