Weekly Links

A couple of days late (had some pet drama around the crib), but better late than never.

Here's a great article about building smart clients.  A worthy read if you are just now venturing into the big bad realm that is smart clients.

Funny story about airport security in Amsterdam.  I had the disdain of flying through Schipol a few months after 9/11...needless to say, I can sympathize with this guy.  They ran the full gammut on me as well, literally tore my laptop apart, scanned my shoes (not a good idea to take your shoes off after a trans-atlantic flight if you get my drift).  But it's all in the name of security, right?

Here's a high level overview of some of the features in SQL Server 2005.  It's basic stuff, but worth skimming over (a nice compendium).

Adult Swim goes through a programming change.  Just give us our Aqua Teen Hunger Force!

An exhaustive list of how to get virtually any OS to run in VirtualPC.  If it's an OS, it's probably on this list.  This would be a great way to get acquainted with a new OS.

New article by Dino Esposito about page inheritance in ASP.NET.  Great article (hey, it's Dino...so of course it is).

Some great links to articles about architecture and what direction it's headed in.  Good overview of some of the new directions architecture is taking.

Calling a webservice locally.  Something else I've done in the past is just have the webmethod call a helper routine directly instead of having all the logic in the webmethod itself.  Great for testing, plus lends itself to better code reuse.

Microsoftbookstore.com.  Great idea Microsoft!

The debate rages on between Java and .Net web services.  IMO, Sun really dropped the ball on this benchmark.

The .Net show introduces Visual Studio 2005.  Very good overview of what's new in VS 2005.  Rather lengthy though.

Online assembly browser for the .Net framework.  Also shows type changes from version to version.

In depth article about ASP.NET 2.0 internals.  More stuff to learn...this is my pick for link of the week, a must read.

This book is getting a good signal to noise ratio in the .Net community.  Next on my list of books to buy.

Multiple programming languages per assembly in v 2.0.  A must read, and it's about time!

If Nintendo games had been written by Microsoft.  Hilarious.

And that's it.  As a side note, I'd like to mention I am very much looking forward to the season finale of Joe Schmo 2 tonight...it's been a helluva ride thusfar, can only go downhill from here.  Happy linking.
